yellow black lines: In composer Poulenc's troi mouvement perpetuel, there is simplicity in an opening of two-line, consonant counterpoint, which might echo our first take of the artist's regularly alternating vertical bands of yellow and black. But even as Poulenc's composition adds lines, chords, dissonance, so we become increasingly aware of complexity and visual dissonance in the painting. (more)
